Originally David Constantine Brooks, Mavado has become one of today’s number one Jamaican dancehall artists. He was raised in Cassava Piece in an area known as Cuba inside Kingston Jamaica. It was known as a very dangerous community and caused young Mavado to be exposed to a wide range of violence and criminal activity as a youth. The success of his career is given to his 2 major influences. Firstly his grandmother who he lived with and who carried him to church on Sundays and his favorite DJ and mentor the legendary Bounty Killer who is also his label mate today.

He began making his name early on as a force to be reckoned with. His single “The Real Mckoy” was used as a theme song for ht Grand Theft Auto part 4 trailer known as “everyone’s a rat”. This single was also featured in Grand Theft Auto IV in one of the radio stations. He has continued to work on massive projects such as his flip version of the tune on the rock to we need Barack in endorsement of the U.S presidential election. He worked on this project with the master of hip hop Russel Simmons and DJ Green Lantern on the official Obama mixtape. He then was featured on the Olympic campaign with his exclusive tune “On The Go” for the sprinter Powell. The massive company Nike also created a special sneaker for Mavado which was to represent his home of Cassave Piece. He has continued to give us hit after hit specially when collaborating with the master producer Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor song of the legendary Freddie MCGregor. He has shown us his tremendous talent and ability to belt out hit after hit. His most famous tune yet which was featured on BET and MTV was titled “Im So Special” which propelled him into a new arena of stardom and giving him a unpredictable level of success.

Mavado is known for his street lyrics and his ruff and gangster looks. He is the new face of dancehall in this generation and it is no surprise that he is amongst the top dancehall artists today. He has worked with many international artists and has just begun. He has worked with Jay-Z and Lil Wayne to name a few of the hip hop stars he has collaborated with so far. His future is something that is sure to be looked at very closely as only success is to be seen. He does not seem to be giving up anytime soon and promises to keep it real and “Gangsta”. His famous is surely here to stay and he has earned his place in dancehall history as the Real Mckoy.
